Picked Up And Moved Heavy Objects Without Getting Hurt
My first real job was as a furniture mover when I was 16. I had done garden work for my grandfather the summer before and my brother and I had yard work for my father since I was 13 or 14 but this was my first real job. When it came time to put together a resume as I was graduating from college, “picked up and moved heavy objects without getting hurt” was the best description I could come up with.

I came across a copy of that first resume over the weekend and tried to recapture the frame of mind I had when I wrote it. I couldn’t.
“There is always some specific moment when we become aware that our youth is gone; but, years after, we know it was much later.”
